A complex medieval landscape
Byzantine, Seljuk, Armenian and crusading histories overlap in southern Anatolia. A castle’s association with crusaders does not mean every part was built by them.
Southern fortresses and Bodrum
Anazarba, Amouda, Bagras, Koz, Kızkalesi, Silifke, Tece, Tokmar and Yaka belong to different settings. Bodrum’s later Hospitaller castle provides another Mediterranean connection.
Constantinople and the Fourth Crusade
The 1204 sack belongs to the city’s historical interpretation, not a surviving castle circuit. Confirm actual access and travel distances when requesting individual fortress visits.
