The surroundings are a region, not a suburb
Journeys beyond Istanbul can connect the Marmara area and the Dardanelles, but they are not short movements between city districts. Bursa brings an early Ottoman setting and mountain backdrop. Çanakkale is a Dardanelles port city; Troy is a separate archaeological site nearby, with its own museum context.
Choose the heritage interest
Bursa’s mosque complexes and markets suit an urban heritage visit. Troy requires archaeological interpretation rather than a search for one surviving legendary city. Gallipoli’s memorial landscape is another distinct historical subject across the strait; it should not be merged casually into the Troy visit.
Make the connections visible
Discuss the actual road direction, any water crossing and whether the plan is an excursion or part of a longer route. Overnight choices can reduce repeated journeys. A scenic transfer, a guided city walk and a battlefield or archaeological visit have separate scope; confirm each rather than relying on the broad label ‘Istanbul surroundings’.
