An ancient city within a coastal town
Bodrum occupies the setting of ancient Halicarnassus. The remains associated with the Mausoleum, the ancient theatre and Myndos Gate offer different archaeological perspectives. The waterfront castle adds a later maritime layer and is associated with the Museum of Underwater Archaeology; these interests deserve time beyond a harbour photograph.
The town is only one part of the peninsula
The harbour, market streets and whitewashed buildings belong to the central town. Bitez, Gümbet, Gümüşlük and other peninsula settlements create different coastal bases. Consider their position relative to the visits you want: a quieter bay stay and an evening in the central harbour involve different movements.
Plan connections and coastal activities
Milas–Bodrum Airport serves the wider area, so the final transfer depends on the chosen peninsula address. Sea outings, sailing and swimming time need their own confirmed route and conditions. Keep archaeological visits distinct from hotel facilities or boat services, and reserve realistic travel time if the journey continues towards İzmir or the Mediterranean coast.
