Blue Flag Beaches: Choosing a Turkish Coastal Stay

Use Blue Flag criteria to compare Turkish coastal stays, while checking the selected beach’s current status, access and practical suitability.

Understand the designation

Blue Flag is a beach certification with environmental and service criteria. A past award or national total does not establish the status of a particular beach today.

Choose the actual coast

Aegean and Mediterranean stays differ in distances, resort setting and nearby heritage. Consider the beach alongside your accommodation and planned archaeological visits.

Look beyond the resort name

Bodrum, Kuşadası, Marmaris and Antalya provide familiar coastal bases, while Ayvalık, Çanakkale, Mersin and the Black Sea have different settings. Lakes such as Van and İznik also introduce inland beach interests. Use the certification body’s current information to identify a particular beach rather than label a whole coastline certified.

Check local conditions

Verify the specific beach’s facilities, access and designation for the travel date. Sea conditions and swimming arrangements remain separate from any certification.
